International Cinema Film

NOT MY PICTURE

This is my write up for this movie, that you should go see. My professor said he appreachated my view and opinion on the movie... there goes my theary of him not acctually reading my movie summarys...

"The Bicycle Thief" is an Italian movie about the common man, and his everyday feelings and activities. It is a beautiful movie about life. Many movies made today (especaily in the USA) are jam packed with movement, with action, making sure there is enough shocks per minute to keep you interested and to amaze you enough to get you to tell all your friends about it. My Russian friend and I once got into a disscusion about american movies, and she said "why is it always money, movies are made in america just for money" and I very ignoratly asked her "What other reason is there to make a movie?" Now after seeing this movie I have a reason, it is for the beauty of the thing being created, it is another art form.

A man wants to work but there is no work to be found, he see's his family live in poverty and wants nothing more then to change that but doesn't have/can't see a way to change it. Upon getting a job his means of transportation (a requirment for the job), his bike, is stollen. The movie is his search for the bike, the ups and downs of human emotions and behavior.

It was sad, but so real at the end of watching this mans jorney of looking for his bicycle, to have him not find it. It was real. A lot of times in life things just don't work out the way we want them to, the way we think they should work out. Yes life is hard but there is hope. I really belive that "It will all work out" (common saying of President Hinckley). When we put our trust in the lord and make his will ours we are bound to succeed in the path that he would have us take, the best path, not the easiest not the wealthiest but the best. This man didn't have the gospel, he didn't seem to have any religion at all, but I know deep in my heart that the lord loved him (not the fictional character, but the person that this man was representing a group of men that had been cut short in so many things). Life is a refiners fire. We live through the bad (hopefully with a good attitude about it since its going to happen, might as well be happy about it) so that one day if not today or in this life, we can have real happiness. I trully belive this, my life is a great example.
